Brief

A residential building for residents relocated from demolished five-storey blocks in the north of Moscow, with public areas and retail on the ground floor. One of two buildings by Studio M3 on Beskudnikovsky Boulevard, together with No. 5.

Solution

An L-shaped building of a high-rise section and a lower wing. The facades combine light, grey and green tiles in a free rhythm, while a green crown with vertical louvres marks the top of the building and sets it apart from standard housing.

Concept, floor plans and facades. AGR, P and R stage documentation, 2015-2016.

Diversity against monotony

The renovation programme shows how varied facades can change the character of an entire district. Instead of standard templates, each building gets its own identity through texture, window rhythm and a combination of materials.

This diversity enlivens neighbourhoods and brings human scale back to the streets. Facades that respond to local context become the face of the district, break visual monotony and strengthen residents' bond with the place where they live.
